Northeast Houston has deep historical roots. Kashmere Gardens, Frenchtown, and The Fifth Ward are some of the city’s older neighborhoods. These neighborhoods grew out of the relocation of freed slaves and late 19th century immigration from Louisiana. From a business persective, one of the city’s major railroad yards is in this area.
It is a major transportation hub for cargo from the Port of Houston.
