Humble, on Houston’ northeast side, is a city with a rich history dating back almost 200 years. It was a a typical small town until the early 20th century when oil was discovered, shortly after the famous Spindletop discovery in Beaumont. It was the home of the Humble Oil & Refining Company, one of the early companies which became part of Exxon (now ExxonMobil). After the oil boom ended, Humble’s economy returned to timber and agriculture until 1969. That year brought the opening of Houston Intercontinental Airport (now George Bush Intercontinental Airport ) which has provided jobs and economic growth to Humble.
Humble offers several museums and points of interest.
For golfers, the Shell Houston Open, a PGA tour event, is played at the Redstone Golf Club in Humble.
The DeLorean Motor Company still has a facility in Humble, one of six such facilities catering to the needs of DeLorean owners around the world. Public education is provided by the Humble Independent School District, which consistently meets all standards required by the Texas Education Commission.
