Tomball and Cypress are the largest communities just northwest of the Houston metro area. Both are flourishing communities with very different personalities, and they are both great places to live.
Tomball is named for Thomas Henry Ball, who played a major part in the development of the Port of Houston. During the 19th century the area enjoyed a boost with the construction of a railroad. The early 20th century brought a small oil “boom” but the from the 1970’s Tomball has become known as a place where residents can enjoy small town life outside the big city. As of the 2010 census, Tomball’s population was just over 10,000 with the vast majority of homes there built since 1970. The Tomball Regional Medical Center offers excellent medical services, and the Tomball Independent School District provides education to children of Tomball residents.
The Texas Renaissance Festival draws crowds of costumed medieval enthusiasts in the early fall.
Cypress is an unincorporated area within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Houston. The area has a long history, with settlers recorded in the area from the 1840’s. The area is sometimes referred to as Cy-Fair, which comes from the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, one of the Houston area’s best. Cypress features The Berry Center (an entertainment venue) as well as the Northwest Forest Conference Center. There are also several golf courses in the area, and Cypress Top Historic Park, a collection of vintage buildings available for special events and guided tours.
